3/27/22 - The Outfit (2022) - 6-/10
Enjoyable and slickly tight (a breezy 105 minutes) in this crime thriller whodunnit kind of almost play on screen. It ends up being a bit less than all it could be, but it does a decent enough job making the drama impactful, even if there isn’t enough of that drama or thrill to match its trailer.
Mark Rylance is the ultimate “understated” actor in Hollywood right now, with every character being a crumpled quiet man with lurking secrets and/or power. Just because it isn’t the most range-filled performance doesn’t mean that it wasn’t good because he is damn fine at his job.
The whole thing felt light, quick, and a little too idly empty for a bountiful fulfillment of the promise that I envisioned, but it scratched enough of that itch.
