SON OF SAUL (2015)

February 28, 2016 by Jacob Nelson in 2015, 8, DRAMA, S, WAR, FOREIGN, Oscars 2016

2/28/2016 - Son of Saul (2015) - 8-/10

Such an intense film. Maybe the most fervent and breathless film of the year, as we are dragged through this horrid section of humanities detestableness.

Such vivid and remarkable filmmaking with the constant shallow focus keeping us in each moment, with no escape, just like the prisoners. Tremendous job by a first time director.
The film is affecting, maddening, dispiriting and importunate. A tough watch, but the marvelous on screen work and the and the import of the subject make this a film to catch.
