Endearing and touching, as most almost all Cartoon Saloon films are. Whimsical in its fantasy, but bitter realistic in its drama; lessons harshly learned for the little ones as they are never afraid to draw tears with their tellings.
I didn’t love the animation style here, but the blocky and sketchy worked for it. It had a rustic quality to it and a sense of history lost to myth. That paired with the poetic storytelling also allowed for a timeless feel.
Not as loved as Song of the Sea, but they do a tremendous job of instilling ethos and passion into these magical family tails - that’s on purpose ;).
