Trying to recapture the gritty and disturbed fortitude of 90s Denzel Washington crime thrillers, but with the cutting heft of a garbage bag. Leto defines his amorphous creepo with aplomb, but Washington is fairly unengaging and Malek seems lost in it all. There isn’t much of an outstanding style within the direction or script. It’s plainly interesting, but lacks the hook, rod, or reel.
Expecting emotional charge or gripping tense drama and you will be disappointed. Expect a reasonable and passable facsimile of “cop trying to catch a killer” drama circa the passed 2 decades and its a passable 2 hours.
