BLOCKERS (2017)

9/28/18 - Blockers (- 4-/10)

Weird mix of thoughtful adult and outdated childish sense of humor. The biggest problem was that this movie was not funny. Sure it’s ridiculous but it wasn’t that enjoyable. There wasn’t much special or new, just fairly standards sex comedy from the parents point of view. Meh.

I can't see what some critics loved about this flick. There was no special poignant scene. There was no spectacular and meaningful character. There was no bit full of purpose and smart resonant critique. There are butt chugging jokes, "parents just don't understand" emojis, and over-the-top supposedly-funny set-pieces. Certainly  been done before and better.

I did not like this film, but I wouldn’t apply hate. It rambles along at a pretty quick pace, keeping things pretty lite, and is safe, though dull. The elements of the film were pretty standard and fine, but it felt like with a stronger humorous script and a fulfilled point (I would love for the uptight parents to satisfy their existential quandary and externalize their reason for protecting their daughters' virginities versus just shrugging their shoulders and giving up) it might actually be a worthwhile average venture. As it stands, it is an uncooked concept sprinkled with underdone parental angst and drizzled with pubescent nonsense; an unsatisfying meal.
